Chicago

Traveling to Chicago can sound overwhelming and scary. There is a lot to do in Chicago. I have been there twice. When I was 14, we went and did a few things.

But in 2005 I was working as a welder for HMT tanks. We were working at a gasoline tank farm. Making decent money so when I had time off we were Tourists. While there we went to the Sears Tower, to the 104th floor, to the sky deck. Rode the express elevator. Fucking awesome! Fast lift, 104 floors in 30 seconds.

It was a beautiful day that day. I could see across Lake Michigan. That was sweet. The sky deck floor made mostly of glass. Even 2 feet (0.61 m) of the floor all the way around was glass, you could walk on it and look down. That was freaky, looking down between your feet and see 1,500 feet (0.46 km) down. Freaky feeling, almost like a carnival ride. The Adrenalin pumping fear and excitement.

The ride down was like 30 seconds of driving over those little hills that make your belly fall behind and have to catch up. It was now time for lunch. At the mall we went to was The Rain Forest Café. The whole place was themed Rain Forest with foliage, fake Monkeys and Parrots, and fish tanks at each table. We were promptly seated and drink orders went in. The service was great, and the food was awesome.

The drive back to the Motel 6 went right through O’hare Airport. Planes taxi over the freeway on bridges. It is funny looking seeing a big 777 going across a bridge you have to drive under. I was amazed by that. We made plans for the next weekend to go to the Science and Industry museum.

Working in Chicago wasn’t bad. That was because I knew it was going to end soon, and we would move on. But not yet. The weekend came, and it was another beautiful summer day in Chicago. We got a late start to the museum and missed the u-boat tour tickets. I will tell about that in a minute. This was my second time to come here, but the first time was 24 years ago. It was free entry then, but now its 9 dollars per person.

This place is the biggest museum I have ever seen. A week is how long it would take to see everything there is to offer there. The place has a couple of features you won’t see anywhere else in the States, except maybe the World. The only coal mine you go up to get into and down to get out of. And a genuine German WWII u-boat submarine. The U-boat 505 captured a mile from the African coast. Can’t remember how it came to the museum. But it is a sight to see.

Colleens dollhouse; A Mansion dollhouse with electricity and running water. Gold fixtures and marble walls and Columns. The place even had a weeping willow tree in the court yard garden. One other exhibit stood out to me. That was a physics room, it had two structures in it. Curved walls 3 feet (0.91 m) wide by 6 feet (1.83 m) tall. You put your feet in the spots pointing to the wall. Walls 30 feet (ca. 9 m) apart. You face one and another, face the other and whisper. You will hear what was whispered behind your back 30 feet (ca. 9 m) away just as clear as if talking in your ear.

Summery is Chicago is a great place to go as a tourist.
